cloud 9 philippines surf report

Ocean 101 Cloud 9 Surf Report
Siargao Island Philippines
09 October 2014

Well, for my last hoorah today before another short absence I was given a lesson by Huey never to take his power for granted especially at cloud 9.Having woken just before first light and looking at empty 6ft perfection I wasn't even tempted to go fishing, then paddling out the Eastern keyhole without my legrope attached as a habit I have developed over the last 2-3 yrs from entering the waves by boat so that when I get in the lineup the first set is possibly riden without it for an extra thrill,I was beaten by an inside shore dump and had my favourite stick ripped from my hands and pushed inside as i was sucked out into the peak to be the first in the lineup but with no board.Luckily after swimming back in and across the razor coral and receiving only minimal scratches on my guts my board was bobbing in the left channel unharmed.Going back to solid 6ft swell from a good NE direction with 3 others was pleasing.Wind was light offshore from early. And the Crowd at 9 was Kyron on his SUP about 4 other surfers and similar amount of lids.Synopsis: At 4:00 AM today, the eye of Typhoon "OMPONG" {VONGFONG} was located based on all available data at 940 km East Southeast of Calayan,Cagayan (18.9ºN, 130.4ºE) with maximum winds of 215 kph and gustiness of up to 250 kph. It is forecast to move North Northwest at 9 kph. Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao. Forecast: Metro Manila, MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Cagayan Valley, CAR and the provinces of Ilocos will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Luzon and from the west to southwest over the rest of the country. The coastal waters over the entire archipelago will be moderate to rough.
